Biography
Stych formed
in North Carolina when vocalist/guitarist, Derek Allman and drummer Dustin
Allman met with bassist David Diffee to record Derek Allman's song, "Undeniable".
Derek wrote and recorded several vocal/acoustic guitar tracks over the course of a year in anticipation of forming a band.
"I didn't know when I would pull a band together, but I knew that I needed to start writing and recording songs to get the ball rolling," he explained.
Derek
always had hopes of forming a band with his cousin Dustin Allman. The only
obstacle to attaining that goal was in locating a bass player who held their
same passion for music. That problem was resolved when they met David Diffee.
The deal was sealed when the three successfully recorded six of Derek's songs
over the course of a single weekend. This positive experience fueled their
ambitions. Sensing inevitable success, they agreed to continue writing and
recording songs for an entire CD.
Citing influences such as Tool, Mudvayne, and Chevelle, Stych delivers a mainstream, metal/hard rock sound, while maintaining their own brand of creativity. Their style varies from the intensely erotic "Deep Inside" to the powerful rock anthems "Undeniable" and "Breathless" to the classical dynamics of "Resurrect.
Now Stych has even further developed their original sound with their sophomore album, Foundations.
"We never really decided on one certain sound for this record (Foundations). Although, we did agree that we wanted it to sound bigger and more aggresive. Other than that, we just kind of wrote what felt natural for us. On Drifter, our main influence were mostly our favorite bands. On Foundations our main influence was ourselves, and of course the music we were listening to at the time," Derek comments.
